Eldora, CO: Open November 21

Eldora Ski Area opens for the 2008-2009 season on Friday, November 21, 2008.
The ski area located 21 miles west of Boulder, Colorado will open with 4 trails, and 4 lifts are scheduled to operate. The cold front that moved into the Front Range mountains of Colorado late Wednesday night brought new snow to the area and allowed for snowmaking operations to run in full-force.

Loveland, CO: Opened October 15

Loveland and A-Basin opened at the same time this year, being the first resorts in North America to do so. The first turns alternated between icy patches and powdery goodness at Loveland.

Arapahoe Basin, CO: Opened October 15

Pete Drummond and friends land the first chair of the season at Arapahoe Basin for the 2008-2009 ski season. Though they didn't have to stay overnight, Drummond and pals had to get up early, getting to the resort at 6:15am. On the conditions on Day 1, Drummond says "Fantastic. Velvety. Superb. Couldn't ask for better."

Vail, CO: Open November 21

Vail Mountain is scheduled to open for its 46th season on Friday, Nov. 21 at 9 a.m. The resort will offer skiing and snowboarding on the Born Free trail, accessible by the Born Free Express Lift (Chair 8) in Vail Square/ Lionshead. The Eagle Bahn Gondola will offer access to beginner terrain in the Little Eagle Lift (Chair 15) area as well as Eagle’s Nest for on-mountain dining at The Marketplace restaurant. Lift tickets on opening day are $65 for adults, $55 for seniors and $45 for children 12 and under.

Bachelorette Benefit in Breckenridge

Professional snowboarder and winner of the most recent season of ABC’s The Bachelorette, Jesse Csincsak and friends, Suzy Wasick and Jill Campbell (left) hang at the Colorado Avalanche Information Center Benefit (CAIC) Bash Saturday night in Breckenridge. The event, one of the many opening weekend festivities in the high country, was held to raise money to counteract a $25,000 budget cut the organization sustained this year.
