Interview
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Dorky business TLA's (three letter acronyms) which where handed down to me from a friend and co-worker Shilo Jones. KPI, EOD, PDP, SEM the list goes on.
How old were you when you first tried on skis?
I think I was in 4th or 5th grade. I'm really bad with dates.
If you weren't a pro skier what would you be doing?
That's funny because I work more than full time in addition to skiing for a company that I founded, evo aka www.evogear.com.
Who has had the biggest influence in your life?
My parents hands down. I have them to thank for just about everything.
What is your biggest fear?
I wouldn't call it a fear but I think that I'm most focused (sometimes but not often stressed) on building evo into the company that I know it should and will be. I want it all to happen yesterday, but have to remind myself that it takes time and the challenges faced are all part of what will make a great us a great business.
How would your friends describe you in one word?
Enthusiastic? Optimistic (sometimes to a fault). Great question, but I'd hope it's a positive one.
What’s your favorite drink? Favorite food?
I love all types of food from all over the world so I can't answer that one, but my favorite drink if I where to pick one would be the Oolangtini served at Thaiku in my Seattle neighborhood, Ballard. If you haven't had one, you need to get to Ballard and try one out.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I believe that we'll have accomplished some huge goals at evo and as always, I hope/expect to be living a balanced lifestyle being able to ski, ride, kite and do all of the other great stuff that should make up a day. Goals are by no means limited to numbers. I want to make sure that the culture is thriving, people at evo are feeling balanced and taken care of, we've been able to hone in on and best serve our target customers while at the same time been able to establish a system for giving back to those less fortunate namely under-served children. Crazy to say it but I could have a little one or two. I just got engaged yesterday! I'm writing this from Paris.
You’ve taken quite a few ski trips to South America. How does it compare to the slopes in North America?
It's hard to compare really. The combination of incredible terrain and the South America culture is what really makes it special. I really enjoy being down there, even when the snow and weather is erratic (which is always). That said, when it's good it's tough to beat. The Marte lift in Las Lenas is right on par with a couple others that rank at the "as good as it gets" level. The others include Haines when the conditions are perfect, Europe and the Northwest with good friends on a deep day.
What makes Las Lenas one of your top ski destinations in the world?
The 4,000 sustained vertical and unique to Las Lenas terrain is what does it. The people, coffee, wine and meat are what top it off, but the terrain when the snow is good sets Las Lenas apart.
