How long have you been skiing?
I started skiing when I was two and a half. I turned twenty four this summer, so a good twenty two years worth.
What's normally going through your head when you're skiing?
Music from my Skullcandy headphones, and thoughts of where the next fresh turn will be laid. Skiing brings a lot of joy to me, so I guess that would be another thing going through my head. Joy.
When and why did you decide to start skiing switch?
I started skiing backwards about ten years ago. Skis were being made with turned up tails and I had the chance to watch others ski switch. My cousin let me borrow his K2 Poachers, and I just followed suit.
Do you ever catch any flack for not using poles?
A little bit, yes. When I started skiing without poles, a lot of people shunned me away. They wouldn't put me in their movies or magazines without poles. Now, their newest star athletes are often seen without poles. So I don't hear too much about it now.
What is your favorite aspect of skiing Silverton Mountain?
The whole operation makes it what it is. The snow and terrain are amazing. The employees and customers are all there for the same reason, because they love the big mountains. This combination makes for a great mountain experience.
Where is your favorite ski location of all time?
I still feel that there is nothing better than coming home and skiing my home mountain, White Pass. It's a good little mountain, and if it's too crowded, snowmobile accessed terrain is close by.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not skiing?
I really enjoy riding motorcycles. Be it trails, tracks, or street. It gives me a feeling of freedom. I also enjoy mountain biking, wakeboarding, camping, building things; construction and mechanical, and doing things with my family and friends.
What was your favorite aspect of filming with the Warren Miller crew this year?
We had great weather, great snow, and everyone was on point when it was go time. This made things enjoyable and memorable. I feel bad saying this, but when Pep got hurt, it gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. A personal helicopter for a day. That's hard to beat.
What's your favorite Warren Miller film?
I honestly couldn't tell you. I grew up loving all the movies from the late 80's and early 90's. I think I watched either Endless Winter or Extreme Winter the most. Or maybe it was the Bloopers one. I don't remember.
