The 2012 Minnesota Ski & Snowboard Expo will help kick off the season Oct. 19-21 at the Mall of America, with free admission and parking, great entertainment, giveaways and deals—and a special indoor learn-to-ski slope for children.
Numerous local, regional and Western ski areas will exhibit, offering specials on lift tickets, season passes, instructional programs and more. Attendees will also see the latest ski and snowboard gear and apparel from leading manufacturers, and get expert advice from top local retailers. Exhibits will be in the Rotunda and in public spaces and concourses on the eastern side of the mall.
A special learn-to-ski slope in the Southeast Court, next to the Rainforest Café, will allow children to experience the sensations of skiing. The 20-foot-by-40-foot slope, built by Fresh Tip Design, will be covered with the mSnow synthetic sliding surface. Complimentary instruction will be provided by the SkiJammers Ski & Snowboard School, and equipment will be provided free of charge by Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area.
Scheduled entertainment includes the high-flying “Skyriders” trampoline show in the Mall’s Rotunda, which always draws large crowds on all four levels overlooking the Rotunda. There will also be hourly drawings for lift tickets to local ski areas and tickets to Warren Miller’s “Flow State” Oct. 26-27 at the State Theatre, $200 gift certificates to Hoigaard’s ski and snowboard shop, and the opportunity to win a grand prize to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Just for entering the drawing, attendees will receive a $10 gift card to liftopia.com.
“We’re looking forward to partnering with the MnSno group of local and regional ski areas again, and returning to Minnesota for our fifth year,” said Bernie Weichsel of Massachusetts-based BEWI productions, which has been staging successful ski and snowboard expos nationwide for more than 30 years. “Attendees are able to enjoy the Mall’s many dining and shopping options while they get ready for their ski and snowboard season. We’re also able to expose our sport to a large audience.”
Minnesota Ski & Snowboard Expo hours will be 10am-9:30pm on Friday, Oct. 19, 10am-9:30pm on Saturday, Oct. 20 and 11am-7pm on Sunday, Oct. 21. There will be free admission and free parking. For more info, visit www.skisnowboardexpos.com.
